LMC MSHS has been contacted by our Guatemalan partners from Jump the World to participate in a virtual Spanish/English Language exchange during the up and coming months. If you are interested in practicing your Spanish, meeting new friends from around the world, discussing modern challenges like COVID 19 from a global perspective and increasing your socialization during our Stay Home mandate, this program is targeted at you! This is an awesome opportunity to engage in a unique exchange program, designed for unique times. The program is facilitated by Jump the World's instructors and asks for a one hour per week commitment from all participating students. Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate. Below is some more detailed information:

Regulations:

1. These interviews between students have different purposes such as: academic, cultural and practicing different languages.

2. The interview will have a defined schedule and timing. An interview format will be completed and time will be left for practical language interaction. 

3. The interview is introduced by a coordinator in charge and afterward he/she will leave the conversation in order to give the students space for their own development. These interviews can be done more than once with different participants.

4. We promote friendships, practicing of the language, learning of the differences between cultures and the empathy of the current situation. These interviews are not intended for dating.

5. At the end of the interview, we ask teachers to give us some feedback from the students. 

6. These interviews are not for adults or parents, they are targeted only for students.

7. *Students will utilize video conferencing for their interviews and conversations and will be managed at LMC via Mr. White, Principal and Mrs. Wood, Social Worker-Intern.

If you are interested in participating, please email Mr. White (jwhite@lmclakers.org) directly and I will afford you a version of the application in Google format for you to complete. All students are welcomed to participate. We are seeking 5-10 students across all grade levels.

As Jump the World,  we always have the spirit to motivate our young participants to make good use of free time, improve their frequency and communication skills in the English / Spanish language and have a virtual cultural experience. Therefore, we want to invite you to participate in our new program:

Stay home and meet a Guatemalan / American student with whom you can practice Spanish and learn about their culture.

What is the program about:

Virtual interviews and conversations between a young Guatemalan and an American lasting one hour via Skype, Google Meet, Facetime or similar. They will be introduced by our coordinators who will provide you with an outline to be followed during this time, as well as clear rules. The themes will be both current and youth. We are looking for youngsters with the great concern of practicing a language or both; Spanish and English.

What we need from you:

1. Between 5 and 10 students from your school who are between the ages of 12 and 17 and who are interested in practicing Spanish and allowing a Guatemalan student to practice English. Or why not, both.

2. That parents have information on this subject so that they trust that they are both designated students with the purpose of academic and cultural backgrounds.

3. Follow-up to the young participants and Comments on the experience.
 

Lake Michigan Catholic's International Program is growing!  Our first group of French exchange students from Saint-Denis International School in Loches, France, spent February 2020 at LMC.  In the Fall of 2020, we are planning to host students from Guatemala through the "Jump the World" Cultural International Exchange program.
